Supplication on going to sleep

Allaahumma Bismika Amootu Wa Ahyaa.

Oh Allah! In Your Name do I die and (in Your Name) do I live.

Other things to do before sleeping

Before going to bed the Prophet (SAW) would bring his palms together, and blow (spittle) into them, and then would recite Surahs Ikhlas, Falaq and Naas (the last three of the Holy Quran), then he would wipe his hand over his body, starting with his head and face, and foreside of his body. He would do this three times. This was to act as a protection during the night.

It has also been reported that companions such as Abu Bakr and ‘Umar (RA) could not believe that people would go to sleep without first reciting the last two verses of Surah 2, al-Baqarah (that is 285 and 286).

The Sunnah is to sleep on your right side, facing the Qiblah if possible, with the right hand under the cheek and the knees bent. And don’t make yourself too comfortable such that it becomes more difficult to wake up for Tahajjud or Fajr prayers…
